The Hozho Approach
Finding clarity, calm, and balance in your dog’s wellbeing even when everything online feels overwhelming.
If you’ve ever gone down a rabbit hole of Google searches, Facebook group debates, or conflicting advice from friends, vets, and influencers… you’re not alone.
Caring for your dog shouldn’t feel like a full-time job in detective work yet for so many guardians, it does.
That’s where Hozho comes in.
What Hozho Means (and why it matters for your dog)
Hozho is a Navajo concept built around harmony, balance, beauty, and interconnectedness.
It’s about creating wellbeing by bringing things back into alignment not by forcing, masking symptoms, or quick fixes, but by truly understanding what’s going on beneath the surface.
And that’s exactly how I approach canine nutrition and wellbeing.
Not as a list of rules…
Not as a “perfect diet”…
Not as a one-size-fits-all method…
…but as a way of bringing your dog back into balance, gently and intentionally.
Why So Many Dog Guardians Feel Overwhelmed
Most mainstream approaches focus on symptoms itchy skin, loose stools, anxiety, poor appetite without ever looking at the whole dog.
You might hear:
“Try this food.”
“Add this supplement.”
“Buy this product.”
“Just do this training technique.”
But when everything contradicts everything else, you’re left feeling confused, guilty, and more stuck than before.
Many guardians also worry about the overuse of medications, boosters, parasite treatments, and the impact of toxins but don’t know where to start or who to ask.
You deserve someone who will listen.
Someone who understands the overwhelm.
Someone who helps you make choices that align with your values and your dog.
That’s my role.
My Role: A Guide, not a Vet
I’m not here to replace your vet or tell you to stop treatments.
I’m here to give you another side of the story so you can make calm, informed, confident decisions that feel right for you and your dog.
Together, we explore what’s going on beneath the symptoms, how food and environment contribute, and how to support the whole dog, gently and intentionally.
Becoming your dog’s advocate learning to understand what they need is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.
“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” - Abraham Lincoln
My job is to help you bring more life, more balance, and more ease into your dog’s years.
How I Work (The Foundations of the Hozho Approach)
Every dog is individual, but my approach always considers the whole dog their body, their environment, their emotions, their history, their energetics.
I draw from Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, nutritional science, gut health research, and holistic wellbeing.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
1. Gut Health First
“All disease begins in the gut” and the more I work with dogs, the more I see how true this is.
A balanced, supported microbiome can transform skin, digestion, behaviour and more.
2. Fresh, Whole Food Feeding
Raw, lightly cooked, or a blend, whichever works best for your dog and your lifestyle.
Fresh feeding supports the gut, the immune system, and overall vitality.
3. Supplements & Herbs - Only When They Help
No more supplement graveyards.
I help you choose intentionally, safely, and without wasting money.
4. No Quick Fixes - But Real, Lasting Change
Chronic issues take time to unravel. I’ll guide you with patience, realism, and compassion.
5. Reducing Toxins & Supporting Natural Balance
This includes home environment, household products, parasite protocols, and vaccination choices.
6. Holistic, Gentle Parasite & Vaccination Approaches
Including titre testing, supportive herbs, and natural preventatives where appropriate.
7. Testing When Needed
From yeast tests to vet-led diagnostics - we use information to guide choices, not guesswork.
8. Working as a Team
I encourage you to collaborate with your vet and, when needed, recommend trusted professionals, osteopaths, behaviourists, holistic vets to support your dog fully.
A Note on Training Methods
My approach is rooted in reducing stress and supporting the gut–brain axis.
Because of this, I do not work with aversive tools such as prong or e-collars. They can:
Create chronic stress that impacts gut health and behaviour
Disrupt the vagus nerve (which regulates digestion, immunity, and emotional state)
Intensify pain responses
Affect fascia, leading to tension and physical imbalance
Impact the relationship between guardian and dog
I only work with guardians who use (or are open to) kind, science-based, force-free methods that support true wellbeing.
